Luminous Gestures
a collaboration with Shannon Willis and Weslie Ching
Luminous Gestures was a site-specific installation in Isla Vista, CA, funded by the California Arts Council through UC Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission. The large-scale installation included two interactive "walls". The first, "Time Dilation", utilized depth sensing and computer feedback to provide visitors a palette to explore movement and narrative with time-delayed versions of themselves. The second, "Thermal Gestures", employed a white thermally-sensitive wall, projection and thermal imaging to engage the public in a highly tactile, interactive community experience. The installation was a collaboration with sculptor and video artist Shannon Willis and choreographer Weslie Ching. The installation included a company of six dancers in a site-specific dance which integrated the two interactive walls.
